My Best Words
Sometimes I nail it. Sometimes I don’t. But when I do, I can’t help but swoon over the wonder that is the written word. My love affair with language fills me with awe, wakes me up at night, and lulls me away to daydreamy places. The insatiable desire to discover more about her charms keeps me coming back, coming back, putting pen and paper, letter upon letter, until I step back and can say, “Those are my words. My best words.”

It was a balmy night, the kind of night you want to drink in gulps but can’t seem to swallow fast enough. The sun was just setting behind a plateau of red rocks, sending an offering of burnt yellow rays heavenward. A warm breeze flirted with the hem of my skirt and tugged at my hair lifting single strands like kites in a summer sky.
